Thunderwolves record sweep against Jamestown CC

SUNY Niagara women's volleyball won its second match of the season and first in WNYAC action with a three-set sweep against Jamestown Community College, 25-12, 28-26, 25-23, Thursday in Sanborn. This marked the Thunderwolves' first sweep since a Region III pod match versus Mohawk Valley on Oct. 19, 2024, one of four wins in straight sets last year.

Sophomore Cait Cliffe recorded a team-high 15 kills along with nine digs. Classmate Ava Gaudy recorded 30 of the team's 40 assists and freshman Sariah Tindal had nine kills, six digs, two assists and two service aces.

Freshman Nevaeh Hall had seven kills, seven digs and a team-high four service aces. Sophomore Alexis Majka had six kills and a team-high three blocks. Freshmen Jordan Smith and Sariah Tindal had six digs apiece. Freshman Samantha Knobloch had three assists and two digs.

NOTES:

With the 15 kills against Jamestown, Cliffe recorded double-digits in the category for a sixth time this season and 13th in her career. Cliffe has posted the feat in 10 of her last 16 contests, dating back to a 16-kill outing against SUNY Broome on Oct. 12, 2024. Cliffe is the team leader this season in kills (124) and digs (69). Through 30 career matches, Cliffe has 291 kills and 271 digs.

Gaudy recorded her fourth contest with at least 30 assists this season and the ninth time in her career with 30 against the Jayhawks. Gaudy surpassed her previous career-high against Jamestown of 24, which came in SUNY Niagara's three-set win on Oct. 5, 2024. Gaudy has 614 assists in 30 career matches.

Hall recorded season-highs in kills (7) and digs (7) in the win. Hall's previous personal bests were six kills against Monroe CC on Sept. 20 and five digs in her Thunderwolf debut in the season-opener against the same Tribunes team on Sept. 4.

Smith recorded her second outing of the season with at least six digs in Thursday's win against Jamestown. Smith's current season-high is seven, which came in SUNY Niagara's four-set win against Roberts Wesleyan on Sept. 18.

After recording her first career service ace against Finger Lakes on Sept. 20, Knobloch recorded a personal-best of three in the win against Jamestown. This was in addition to recording three assists, one shy of her season-high against the Lakers in the same match.

SUNY Niagara (2-8, 1-2 WNYAC) returns to action when it hosts its first of two Region III pods of the season Saturday in Sanborn. The Thunderwolves begin their day against Erie CC at 10 a.m. and later face SUNY Broome at 2 p.m. This marks the fourth of seven regional pods on SUNY Niagara's schedule this season.
