Thunderwolves swept by Genesee

In front of a home crowd, SUNY Niagara women's volleyball lost to Genesee CC in three sets, 25-16, 25-18, 25-21, Tuesday in Sanborn. The loss for the Thunderwolves came after hosting their first of two regional pods this season on Saturday. 

Fresh off recording her 300th career kill, sophomore Cait Cliffe posted a team-high 11 kills along with three digs. Ava Gaudy recorded 16 of the Thunderwolves' 21 assists and three of the team's eight serving aces. 

Nevaeh Hall had a team-high five digs plus four kills and two blocks. Alexis Majka had three kills and two blocks. Sariah Tindal finished with four kills and three digs.

 

NOTES:

With 11, Cliffe has recorded double-digit kills nine times this season and 16 in her career. She has now posted the feat in 13 of her last 19 matches, dating back to a 16-kill outing against SUNY Broome on Oct. 12, 2024. Named the NJCAA Region III Player of the Week on Sept. 30, Cliffe is the team leader this season in kills (164) and digs (80). Cliffe now has 331 kills plus 282 digs in 33 matches.

With her 16 assists, Gaudy recorded double-digit assists for a fourth consecutive match, marking the longest streak in her SUNY Niagara career. The NJCAA Region III Player of the Week on Sept. 23, Gaudy now has 694 assists in 33 career matches. 

After posting three kills against the Cougars, Majka now has 50 in her sophomore season and needs 10 more to record the 100th of her career kill. Through 33 career matches, Majka has totaled 90 career kills with an average of 2.7 kills per set. Majka is also SUNY Niagara's team leader in blocks this season with 16 and has 35 over the last two seasons.

 

SUNY Niagara (2-11) continues its season when it travels to Genesee for a NJCAA Region III pod on Sunday Oct. 5. The Thunderwolves face Jamestown CC at 12 p.m. and Genesee CC at 2 p.m. This marks the fifth of seven regional pods on SUNY Niagara's schedule this season.
