Niagara County Community College suffered its worse loss of the season, falling to second-ranked and host Monroe Community College, 98-52, in Western New York Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon. The Thunderwolves, ranked No. 12 in the latest NJCAA Div. II poll, finish the regular season at 27-3 overall and 8-2 in WNYAC play.
NCCC has earned the No. 2 seed and a bye into the semifinals of the Region III Div. II Tournament. Its opening game is slated for 6:30 p.m. Saturday at top-seeded Monroe CC. The T-Wolves will face the winner of Wednesday's quarterfinal between No. 6 Genesee CC and No. 3 Mercyhurst North East.
In Saturday's defeat, sophomore Albanellys Perez was the lone NCCC player in double figures, finishing with 13 points and nine rebounds. The Thunderwolves, who made just 19 of 70 field-goal attempts (27 percent), trailed 53-24 at the half. NCCC was also out-rebounded, 53-34.
