T-Wolves knock off Lakeland CC

Freshman guard Alliyah Gillespie had a game-high 20 points to lift Niagara County Community College to a 69-58 non-conference win over Lakeland CC on Tuesday night. It was the sixth consecutive win for the Thunderwolves (9-1), who turned 25 Lakeland CC turnovers into 25 points.

Gillespie, who hit 12 free throws, added five rebounds and three steals in the win. Freshman wing Taliyah Hopkins finished with 16 points, eight boards, three steals and three blocks. First-year players and former high school teammates Dazjah Coleman (10 rebounds, three blocks) and Peyton Butts (eight points, four rebounds) also made solid contributions.

Next up for NCCC is the inaugural Thunderwolves Classic, which is slated for Saturday and Sunday. The opening round includes Macomb CC vs. Villa Maria (5:30 p.m. Sat.) and Henry Ford CC vs. NCCC (7:30 p.m. Sat.).
