Thunderwolves complete slate at Spring Games in Florida to start new campaign
SUNY Niagara completed its nine-game slate in six days at the Spring Games March 13-19 in Clermont, Fla. The contests were primarily against programs from across the three NJCAA divisions.
The Thunderwolves, who are coming off a 5-26 finish last season, went 1-8 on this year’s trip to Florida. This came after a 0-10 finish last season in the Sunshine State.
SUNY Niagara continues its season with a doubleheader at Tompkins Cortland Community College at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Cortland. The Thunderwolves then compete in a doubleheader at Herkimer College at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Friday, March 13
Game One: Rochester Community & Technical College 7, SUNY Niagara 6, F/8
Trailing 5-0 through the first three-and-a-half innings, the Thunderwolves bounced back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth and added one more in the bottom of the fifth, cutting the deficit to 5-3. SUNY Niagara then added two more runs in the bottom of the seventh, tying the game at 5-5 and forcing extra innings.
The Yellowjackets scored two runs in the top of the eighth and took a 7-5 lead. The Thunderwolves had an opportunity to tie the game, but came up close in the bottom of the eighth.
Grace Schindler went 2-for-4 at the plate and drove in a run. Sophomore and D’Youville commit Quinn Manth delivered a run and crossed home plate twice.
Miranda Shingleton drove in a run and scored a run, and Emmilie Sypherd brought home a run. Mia Herman scored a run and Bella Christopher and Molly Syposs recorded a hit apiece.
Caitlyn Hanley allowed four earned runs on five hits, struck out two and walked nine in six innings. Madison Bainbridge allowed one earned run on six hits, retired two and walked two in the final two innings of play.
Game Two: Lake Forest 7, SUNY Niagara 1, F/6
SUNY Niagara trailed 4-0 in the sixth to its NCAA Division III opponent when Quinn Manth posted her second hit of the game and brought home Leah Kresman on a RBI single, cutting the deficit to 4-1. The Foresters responded with three runs in the bottom half of the frame and secured the win.
Marissa Shingleton started the first five innings in the circle for the Thunderwolves and allowed four runs on four hits, along with three strikeouts and three walks. Caitlyn Hanley threw the final inning and gave up two earned runs on two hits.
Miranda Shingleton and Lauren Kisloski recorded a hit each.
Saturday, March 14
Game One: Mid Michigan College 8, SUNY Niagara 7
The Thunderwolves built a 4-1 lead going into the bottom of the fourth before the Lakers responded with six runs for a 7-4 lead. SUNY Niagara then scored two runs in the top of the sixth and cut the deficit to 7-6 before the Lakers scored one run in the bottom half of the frame.
SUNY Niagara scored one run in the top of the seventh and had a chance to tie or take the lead, but recorded a strikeout with runners on first and third. The Thunderwolves finished with seven runs on 11 hits.
Caitlyn Hanley went 3-for-5 at the plate and brought home four runs along with a run herself. The four runs batted in tied her career-high, which she set in her SUNY Niagara debut in a 14-6 loss to Iowa Lakes Community College on March 14, 2025.
Grace Schindler, Bella Christopher and Lauren Kisloski drove in a run each. Miranda Shingleton crossed home plate three times and Quinn Manth scored once.
Marissa Shingleton allowed one earned run (seven runs total) on seven hits in 3.2 innings pitched along with five strikeouts and four walks. Caitlyn Hanley then threw 2.1 innings and allowed one run on three hits plus two strikeouts.
Game Two: Schoolcraft College 18, SUNY Niagara 10
SUNY Niagara scored six runs in the first inning and had a 10-6 lead after the third. But the Ocelots scored 12 unanswered, including six in the seventh, for the victory.
Miranda Shingleton went 4-for-5, delivered three runs and scored an additional three. Cailtyn Hanley and Emmilie Sypherd both had a two-hit, two-run performance.
Molly Syposs and Gianna Simone also had two hits and drove in a run and scored once. Grace Schindler and Quinn Manth scored one run each for the Thunderwolves, who scored 10 runs on 13 hits in the loss.
Hanley once again got the start and allowed five earned runs, seven hits, and three walks in 3.2 innings pitched. Madison Bainbridge came in relief and allowed one hit in 1.1 innings, and Marissa Shingleton allowed six runs on six hits plus two strikeouts and two walks in two innings.
Sunday, March 15
Triton College 13, SUNY Niagara 2, F/5
The Thunderwolves trailed 9-0 going into the third before scoring a run. Molly Syposs went 2-for-3 at the plate and drove in a run and Grace Schindler and Eva Lacy scored one apiece in the contest.
Caitlyn Hanley allowed nine earned runs on 10 hits in five innings along with a strikeout and a walk.
Tuesday, March 17
Game One: Manchester University 7, SUNY Niagara 3
The contest was tied at 1-1 after the top of the third before Manchester scored three runs in the bottom of the frame. The Thunderwolves did score two runs in the sixth and cut the deficit to 5-3, but Manchester added two more in the seventh.
Eva Lacy and Mia Herman brought home one run each. Quinn Manth, Miranda Shingleton and Molly Syposs scored one run apiece.
Madison Bainbridge recorded the start and allowed four runs on hits in 2.2 innings pitched, but allowed seven walks and had only one strikeout. Caitlyn Hanley came in relief for the final 4.1 innings and allowed one earned run on five hits along with a strikeout and two walks.
Game Two: Concordia University 16, SUNY Niagara 1, F/5
The Thunderwolves trailed 15-0 through three innings before Mia Herman delivered a RBI single in the fourth. Bella Christopher scored the run and went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate.
Quinn Manth, Miranda Shingleton and Gianna Simone recorded one hit each. Marissa Shingleton and Madison Bainbridge threw two innings each for the Thunderwolves.
Shingleton allowed six earned runs on nine hits along with a strikeout and a walk. Bainbridge allowed four earned runs on seven hits along with two walks.
Thursday, March 19
Simpson College 9, SUNY Niagara 1, F/6
Grace Schindler brought home Quinn Manth in the third for SUNY Niagara’s brief 1-0 lead. Simpson College responded with five in the bottom of the fifth and four in the sixth for the win.
Schindler went 2-for-3 along with the run batted in. Caitlyn Hanley went 2-for-2 at the plate and Jordan Shaffer, Quinn Manth and Miranda Shingleton recorded a hit.
Hanley also went 5.1 innings in the circle and allowed three earned runs on eight hits along with four strikeouts and a walk. Marissa Shingleton allowed one run on three hits.
