Marshall drops game-high 36 points, Thunderwolves route Montgomery College
SUNY Niagara avoided a third straight loss and scored over 100 points for the fourth time this season with a 119-78 win over Montgomery College (MD) Sunday at Monroe University in New Rochelle. This was the second and final day of the 2026 Monroe MLK Mixer, which also featured the host Mustangs and Monroe Community College.
After holding onto a 29-23 lead with 8 minutes, 41 seconds left in the first half, the Thunderwolves exploded and outscored the Raptors 29-13 for a 58-36 halftime lead. The Thunderwolves later recorded a 42-point lead (108-66) with 4:01 remaining in the game.
Chioke Marshall scored a game-high 36 points on 13-of-22 shooting and 3-of-6 from beyond the arc and had a team-high four assists for the Thunderwolves. This marked Marshall’s 14th game in double-digit scoring (42nd overall) and his 13th career game with at least 30 points (fourth this season).
Marshall is tied with Lansing CC’s Zander Woodruff for fifth among all NJCAA Division II players with 23.1 points per game. In 48 career appearances, Marshall has scored 951 points and is 49 away from becoming the 11th member of the program’s 1,000-point club.
Bryce Wejuli finished with 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting and had a game-high eight rebounds. This came after he led all players with 10 rebounds and had eight points in an 82-59 loss to Monroe University Saturday.
Jacob Humphrey finished with 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting along with a team-high three steals, two assists and two rebounds. This marked Humphrey’s eighth double-digit scoring in his first 11 contests.
D’Andre Gibbs scored 13 of SUNY Niagara’s 31 points off the bench and had two rebounds and two assists in 20 minutes of play. Abu Dukuray was the fifth Thunderwolf with double-digit points as he added 10 in 17 minutes as a reserve.
Jaedon Hutchinson had eight points, four rebounds and four assists. Jimmie Green had seven points, three rebounds and two assists.
Jack Kempf had five points and six rebounds. Mustafa Eskici had three points and seven rebounds and David Washington had two assists.
SUNY Niagara shot 44-of-74 (59.5%) from the field, 12-of-26 (46.2%) from the 3-point line and 19-of-25 (76%) from the free-throw line. The Thunderwolves recorded 22 assists, one shy of its season-high mark in a 97-80 win at Lorain County CC on Dec. 20.
SUNY Niagara is 11-7 this season and has won six of its last nine contests since Dec. 3.
NOTES:
- Including the game-high 36 points, Marshall recorded his sixth game with at least three 3-pointers this season (14th overall). Marshall has drilled 96 3-pointers in his Thunderwolf career and has hit a single-game best of six three times, including most recently during an 85-61 win versus Mohawk Valley on Dec. 17.
- Wejuli recorded his 13th game with at least five rebounds and his eighth in a row, dating back to SUNY Niagara’s 89-79 win versus Henry Ford College on Dec. 13. The 19 points were the most the freshman scored since he posted 20 against Lorain County CC on Dec. 20. Wejuli is second on the Thunderwolves in rebounds (5.8) and third in points (11.3) per game.
- Still the team leader in rebounds per game at 6.9, Hutchinson recorded a season-high of four assists in the win against the Raptors. The freshman is averaging 9.2 points and has appeared in all 18 games.
- Gibbs finished with 13 points in 20 minutes off the bench, his most since his season-high of 21 points in a 121-65 win versus Beaver County CC on Nov. 22. The freshman and former Eagle Academy (Bronx) product is averaging 5.6 points and 1.7 rebounds in 13.1 minutes per game.
- Dukuray’s 10 points in 17 minutes off the bench marked his fifth game with in double-digit scoring this season. His season high of 17 came in SUNY Niagara’s win against Beaver County CC on Nov. 22 and Lorain County CC on Dec. 20.
- Kempf’s six rebounds marked the ninth time he had at least five in a game. The freshman is fourth on the team in rebounds per game (4.6).
- SUNY Niagara is now 6-1 when it records 15 or more assists in a game and 10-3 when it posts at least 10. The Thunderwolves are also 7-1 in games decided by 10 points or more this season and 4-6 in single-digit contests.
- 59.5% is a new single-game best in field-goal percentage for SUNY Niagara and the sixth time it has shot over 50%. The 12 converted 3-pointers were the most for the Thunderwolves since they posted 14 against Beaver County CC on Nov. 22.
- SUNY Niagara is 9-3 when it converts at least 15 free-throws in a game after it had 19 against Montgomery College. The Thunderwolves’ season-high is 31 on 46 attempts in a 98-94 win versus Garrett College on Nov. 8.
- The win against Lorain County CC on Dec. 20 marked SUNY Niagara’s 17th consecutive season with at least 10 wins in the Bill Beilein era (2009 — present). The Thunderwolves (then Trailblazers) were 14-35 in the three seasons before Beilein’s arrival (2006-07 to 2008-09).
SUNY Niagara continues its season when it faces long-time rival Erie CC at 1 p.m. Jan. 24 at the Flickinger Center in downtown Buffalo.
