Marshall scores career-high 50 points as Thunderwolves beat Jamestown CC in overtime

Behind a career-high 50 points from sophomore Chioke Marshall, SUNY Niagara turned a 14-point halftime deficit into a 110-109 overtime victory at Jamestown CC Wednesday. This marked the Thunderwolves’ third consecutive win and moved them to 2-0 in WNYAC play.

After setting a previous career-high of 42 points in SUNY Niagara’s 89-83 win versus Allegany College of Maryland on Nov. 9, Marshall reached his 50-point mark after he shot 17-of-31 from the field and 14-of-15 from the free-throw line. This marked Marshall’s 16th game in double-digit scoring this season and he is now fourth among all NJCAA Division II players with 24.3 points per game.

The 50 points from Marshall is believed to be a new single-game record for SUNY Niagara men’s basketball since Athletics Wall of Fame inductee 2001 John Albert Young scored 47 in a contest during the 1963-64 season, the program’s inaugural season and second year of the school.

Freshman Jacob Humphrey added 23 points on 8-of-17 shooting and had eight rebounds and three steals, both team highs. This marked Humphrey’s 10th double-digit scoring game this season and his fourth in his last five outings.

Jaedon Hutchinson and Jack Kempf finished with 10 points each. Hutchinson added three rebounds and two assists and Kempf, who came off the bench, had three rebounds.

Bryce Wejuli had six points and four rebounds. Abu Dukuray had two points and one rebound.

D’Andre Gibbs scored seven points off the bench.

SUNY Niagara shot 42-of-80 (52.5%) from the field, 6-of-21 (28.6%) from the 3-point line and 23-of-29 (79.3%) at the free-throw line. The Thunderwolves recorded seven assists and six steals.

SUNY Niagara is 13-7 (2-0 WNYAC) this season and has won eight of its last 11 contests since Dec. 3.
