HIGH FIVE: T’Wolves win fifth straight, Marshall jumps to fourth all-time in scoring in Sunday matinee with Cuyahoga CC

One, two, three, four, five.

SUNY Niagara posted a new season-best fifth consecutive win in a 97-66 finish versus Cuyahoga CC Sunday in Sanborn. This was the blue-and-gold’s second and final meeting with the Triceratops this season and their third win in the last four meetings since the 2024-25 season.

SUNY Niagara held onto a 27-22 lead with 6 minutes, 22 seconds left in the first half and ended the half of a 15-6 run for a 44-28 lead. The Thunderwolves later scored 52 points in the second half, the ninth time they scored at least 50 in a half this season. 

Chioke Marshall tied for the game-high of 31 points on 9-of-19 shooting and 4-of-10 from beyond the arc. The sophomore from Queens, NY tied his career-high of six assists and had six rebounds.

Jacob Humphrey added 22 points on 8-of-16 shooting and 4-of-7 from downtown. The freshman and Bishop Timon alum also posted four rebounds, three steals and two steals.

Bryce Wejuli had 14 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals. Jaedon Hutchinson had eight points, three rebounds and two steals and Ateny Kuol chipped in five points and three assists to round out the starting lineup.

Abu Dukuray had eight of SUNY Niagara’s 15 points off the bench plus four rebounds. Jack Kempf had six points and six rebounds and Mustafa Eskici had two points and three rebounds. 

SUNY Niagara shot 31-of-71 (43.7%) from the field, went 11-of-30 (36.7%) from the 3-point line and 23-of-27 (season-high 85.2%) at the free-throw line. The Thunderwolves scored 38 points in the paint, had 22 second-chance points and 15 points off turnovers. The blue-and-gold also had 15 steals, five steals and five blocks.

SUNY Niagara is 15-8 (4-0 WNYAC) this season and has won 10 of its last 14 contests since Dec. 3 and five of its last eight since the calendar year.

  • SUNY Niagara continues to find success at home, now at 10-1 in Sanborn this season. Over the last 10 seasons (2016-17), the Thunderwolves are 99-15 at home and have won at least 10 in each of the previous five years (since 2021-22).

 

  • With the 52 points in the second half, SUNY Niagara is now 7-2 this season when they score at least 50 in a half. The Thunderwolves’ season record remains 66 points in the second half of a 117-58 win versus Corning CC on Dec. 3. 

 

  • SUNY Niagara is 6-1 when it scores at least 90 points in a contest. Its season-high remains 121 against Beaver County CC during the Thunderwolves Thanksgiving Holiday Classic on Nov. 22. 

 

  • SUNY Niagara is 9-1 in contests decided by 10 points or more and 6-7 in single-digit contests. The Thunderwolves are also 14-5 when shooting at least 40% and 6-2 when they convert 50% or greater of their shots.

 

  • With a 31-point outing, Marshall recorded his eighth game with at least 30 points (13th of career) and for the sixth time in his last 10 appearances. Marshall also recorded his 19th game in double-digit scoring in his sophomore campaign (47th of career) and is third among all NJCAA Division II players with his team-high 25.2 points per game. The six assists against Cuyahoga CC Sunday tied his career-high for the fourth time (three this season).

 

  • In 53 career games, Marshall has now scored 1,111 career points (21.0 per game). After entering the Cuyahoga CC game with 1,080 points,  Marshall passed Robby Seyler (1,086 from 2009-11), Eli Jones (1,104 from 2013-15) and Pat “Trick” Lewis (1,110 from 1973-75) for fourth all-time in SUNY Niagara men’s basketball scoring.

 

  • Marshall is also one of seven SUNY Niagara players with at least 100 made 3-pointers in his career over the last 10 seasons (since 2016-17) with 107. Marshall needs 10 to pass former teammate Jalen Duff (116 from 2023-25) for sixth on this list. 2018 graduate Donel Cathcart holds the record in these 10 seasons with 144. 

 

  • Humphrey recorded his 13th double-digit scoring of the season and his seventh in his last nine outings with his 22 points. This also marked the 10th time he converted at least seven shots in a game. Humphrey has hit his season-high of 10 made shots in a game three times, with his most recent outing in a 101-96 overtime win versus Monroe CC on Feb. 4. Humphrey is second SUNY Niagara with 17.6 points plus 4.6 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game and has made 16 starts.

 

  • SUNY Niagara is 6-2 when Marshall and Humphrey convert at least two 3-pointers in the same contest this season. The four for Humphrey against Cuyahoga CC was his new career-high, but Marshall’s single-game best is six, which he has reached three times and most recently against Mohawk Valley CC on Dec. 17 (6-of-11).

  • Making his 23rd appearance (22nd start), Wejuli recorded his 11th game in double-digit scoring and his fourth time since the calendar year began after his 14-point effort. The eight rebounds were two shy of his season mark of 10, which he has done twice (Lackawanna College Nov. 1, Monroe University Jan. 17). The two blocks marked his sixth multi-block game of the season (season-high of three against Lackawanna College on Nov. 1). Wejuli is averaging 11.1 points and 5.5 rebounds on 58.3% shooting in 21.6 minutes per contest. 

 

  • Needing three for the milestone, Hutchinson recorded his team-leading 150th rebound of the season against Cuyahoga CC Sunday. The Brooklyn, NY native garnered his 100th of the season during SUNY Niagara’s 78-67 win at Erie CC on Jan. 24 and looks to become the program’s first player with 200 in a season since Aaron Miller in the 2022-23 campaign. Hutchinson is averaging a team-high 6.5 rebounds plus 9.5 points per game and is the only Thunderwolf to start all 23 games.

 

  • Dukuray’s eight points were his most since he dropped 10 against Montgomery College on Jan. 18 at the Monroe MLK Mixer. In 21 games, Dukuray is averaging 6.5 points and 4.1 rebounds and is shooting 45.5% from the field in 12.5 minutes per game 

 

  • Kempf recorded his fourth game with at least two blocks in his freshman campaign, just one day after he had a career-high of three in an 82-69 win versus Jamestown CC. The Starpoint graduate also posted his 11th game with at least five rebounds and is averaging 4.5 points and 4.4 rebounds per game in 23 appearances.

 

  • The 15 assists against the Triceratops were SUNY Niagara’s highest output since they had 22 versus Montgomery College on Jan. 18. The Thunderwolves are 6-2 when they post 15 or more and 13-4 when they have at least 10 in a game. 

 

  • With a 23-of-27 performance, SUNY Niagara is now 7-0 when it converts at least 20 free-throws in a game and has reached this mark for the second time in its last three games (28-of-39, 101-96 overtime win versus Monroe CC, Feb. 4). The Thunderwolves’ season-high remains 31 on 46 attempts in a 98-94 win versus Garrett College on Nov. 8.



SUNY Niagara continues its season and looks to improve to 5-0 in WNYAC play when it hosts long-time rival Erie CC Wednesday in Sanborn. The Thunderwolves have won four of their last five meetings against the Kats since the 2023-24 season.
